Bukedea RDC, DPC Arrested over Crimes Commited during Recent By-election

Following intensive investigations into reported criminal activities in the recent LC V Chairperson by-elections in Bukedea District, the State House Anti Corruption Unit has arrested the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Bukedea, Wilberforce Tukei and the District Police Commander (DPC), SP Charles Okoto, for failing to act on, among others, rampant acts of intimidation and assault of some candidates, polling agents, journalists and voters.

These incidents occurred before, during and after elections.
As Head of the District Security Committee, the RDC plays oversight role of Government activities/programs in the District.
He also, coordinates all other Government departmental Heads and engages on any emergency that has come up.

In Election time, RDC coordinates and ensures smooth transition in election time which did not happen in this case.

So far, eight people have been arrested including ,RDC Bukedea Wilberforce Tukei, SP Charles Okoto, D/ASP Ehguloiti Alex, PC Akankwasa Onesmus, PC Oriokot Simon Peter, PC Kamakoin Difas PC Born Naibei and Councillor Malinga Dan.

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit acted on the orders of President Museveni who was uncomfortable by the rampant election rigging and violence. After the Oyam Parliamentary by-election where Dr. Apio emerged winner beating NRM’s Okello Ongola Junior, President Museveni said he was surprised that the vote rigging actions which took him to bush was again claiming space in the country. The opposition parties including National Unity Platform (NUP), Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) have for sometime  accused NRM for rigging votes and it was claim that the situation went out of hand at Kayunga district during the LCV by-election where NUP’s Harriet Nakwedde lost to NRM’s Muwonge.
