Fr. Kiibi Decries Lack of Integrity, Sectarianism by African Leaders

Fr. Kiibi implored the youngsters to go beyond prayers and exercise values of integrity in whatever they do to win trust, to avoid wayward tendencies like vandalizing public coffers when they come of age, and to endeavor to always pray for themselves rather waiting to be prayed for, arguing that as children of God, they command from their heavenly Father who will listen to their prayers.

Rev. Fr. Deogratius Kiibi, the parish priest of Mpigi Catholic parish has decried the social challenges that have bedeviled Africa characterized by, among the many others, selfish leaders who have been overwhelmed by greed for wealth and power, sectarian tendencies and lop-sided policies, and cited countries like Tanzania, Kenya and Cameroon which he said are undergoing turmoil as a result of such leadership.

Addressing a very attentive and touched congregation on Saturday, Fr. Kiibi said mankind has become so wayward that they have crossed all borders of sinning and gone beyond imaginable limits.

“We are so sinful that we have broken all the ten commandments and are looking for more to break, and hit the extent where even Satan would possibly reject us as being his own”.

He was delivering a sermon at a blessing mass of S.6 students of St. Balikuddembe SS Kisoga in Mukono district. He noted that despite the trying tests mankind is going through, believers should boldly and courageously take them on and in the end, God will offer them space to testify over success when such challenges have been overcome.

“Turning to parents, he urged them not to be fatigued by providing for their children especially through education, and reminded them that what they leave behind for the children materially is not what matters, but rather what they bequeath to them through intellect and integrity acquired at school.

The chairperson of this year’s S6 parents committee, James Mangen hailed school management for concerted efforts to care for the nation’s children for nine out of the 12 months for which they keep them in a year, and added that the sum total of the period the school has mentored the children for the six years translates into a lot by way of inculcating responsibility values in them.

He specifically thanked Fr. Kiibi, saying he was the same priest that blessed the same candidates in 2023 as they prepared to write their UCE examinations, which he said implies that they are going to continue along the virtues he instilled in them two years ago.

The headteacher, Lydia Lukwago Kagoya informed parents that as a result of their commitment to observe fees payment, the school is advancing from level to level, and cited the perimeter wall fencing under construction, a state-of-the-art building due to be started soon and a modern sports arena whose construction begins soon.

She said the school has confidence in the more than 300 S6 finalists because she pointed out, from day one they were educated about the importance of valuing the efforts of all stakeholders in the school right from parents through to the Pope.
