Bad news for immoral revellers! Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC) on Monday banned two popular artists from performing in any function in the country, following the two artistes’ decision to defy summons by authorities to account for the public’s complaints over their vulgar songs.

The singers, Gereson Wabuyi known by the stage name of ‘Gravity Omutujju’ and Yasin Mukasa who goes by the name ‘Lil Pazo’, shunned a meeting convened by officials of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) event organisers and artistes’ groups.

In a similar tone, Buganda Katikkiro (Chief Minister) Charles Peter Mayiga banned the playing of their songs on the Mengo institutions media agencies of BBS TV and CBS radios.

The Katikkiro also appealed to the public to reject their songs as a way of informing immoral singers that Ugandans do not out rightly consume whatever is given to them.

Lil Pazo is famed for using derogatory language in his songs especially ‘Enkudi’, ‘Ensujju’ whereas Gravity’s include; ‘Okwepiica’, ‘Ennyama’, ‘ddoozi’ and others. Among contents of the ban on the two is the decision by UCC to pull down these artists’ songs from the website, a directive to event organizers not to host them, non-use of their songs over radio, television and other outlets.

Airing out the ban, Katikkiro Mayiga was hosting legendary musician, Lord Fred Ssebatta who had visited him at Mengo Bulange to communicate arrangements for his 42nd anniversary in the music business titled ’42 Years of Lord Fred Ssebatta’ slated for this week at Serena Hotel in Kampala.

He clarified that whoever plays these musicians’ songs will be held personally responsible for the subsequent blame because he argued, the community can no longer simply look on as agents of the devil destroy morality with impunity.

Participants in the meeting included another artiste Phina Mugerwa, who said that female artistes were also cautioned for indecent dressing on stage, especially singers like Shakira Shakira and Gloria Bugie, adding that event organisers were called upon to ensure implementation of this directive.
