Tragedy has struck Lusanja-Kiteezi as garbage from the Kiteezi landfill has reportedly buried a number of homes, animals, and some people inside their houses following heavy rain last night.
Hundreds of people are currently feared dead including children whose parents had left at home as they left for work on Saturday morning.
The incident is said to have happened at around 8:00am. The affected residents have called on Police and other agencies that can be of help to hurry up with efforts that will help them recover their loved ones before it’s too late.
By press time, by the help of the locals, two people including a man and a woman had been rescued and rushed to hospital to seek medical attention.
One of the affected residents had told Kyaggwe TV that four of her children, a housemaid and tenants in her houses were all buried by the garbage.
“I wish it was a school day, some of the children would have been at school. But I left them in the house sleeping and it is fully covered by the garbage,” she said while crying.
The Kiteezi landfill, which processes about 1,500 tons of waste daily, is the one which experienced this major slide.
Police are yet to come out with a notice regarding this incident elaborating on the number of people confirmed dead, the casualties, houses, homes and animals affected.
