Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president, Dr. Kiza Besigye has condemned the rampant Uganda Police Force’s brutality on the opposition politicians.

Dr. Besigye says as result, National Unity Platform’s (NUP) principal, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu was Tuesday at Bulindo in Kira Municipality injured when a police officer shot at him with a teargas canister which inflicted injury on his leg.

From his X handle, Besigye’s message reads;

“I’ve just caught up with what happened last evening in Bulindo, Kira. The horrible outcome of what, as usual, is totally uncalled for police aggression against political “opposition” leaders.

From LOP Ssenyonyi’s brief, the injuries Hon Kyagulanyi suffered are from the Tear Ball Grenades (usually blue coloured), that UPF liberally employs as part of persecution- NOT policing!

We condemn the UPF for its continued rampant abuse of Human Rights.

We pray for President Kyagulanyi’s speedy recovery.”

The NUP Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya has also shared a picture also from yesterday’s incident at Bulindo when a police officer had directed a gun towards one of the NUP supporters.

Rubongoya’s message in details;

“One other picture from yesterday- Bulindo. One wonders; Why do they aim projectiles directly at unarmed citizens? I don’t know how many of our comrades are now permanently on crutches and others have had to get artificial limbs because of this kind of brutality. All this because they have been trained to look at those who oppose Gen. Museveni as the worst enemies who must be dealt with in every way possible. This coupled with the lack of consequences on the side of those who commit such crimes has led to boundless impunity.”

Kyagulanyi is currently admitted at St. Francis Nsambya Hospital awaiting surgery to remove canister fragments from his leg, as per the medical officers’ advice. The surgery is expected to take place today (Wednesday).
