A Mukono born-again pastor has observed that non-Baganda undertaking developmental work in the region are unconditionally liable to pay allegiance to Buganda and should not in any way be subjected to discrimination based on their ethnic background.
Pr. Victor Ludovic Mangeni of Victorious Life Church Mbalala in Nama sub-county, Mukono district was on Friday officiating at the top class graduation and end-of-year music dance and drama (MDD) festivities for Parents’ Hope Junior School Ngandu in Mukono Central Division.
Driving his point home, Pr. Mangeni pointed out that with liberalisation in all sectors, we may in future see political aspirants of Chinese descent, disclosing that at Mbalala where he stays, Chinese workers have fathered children with Ugandan women.
“Whatever work is done in Buganda by anybody regardless of their origin, has a direct bearing on the development of not only the country but also this region, which makes all of us qualify as Kabaka’s subjects, and whoever thinks along the line of tribalism is myopic,” the pastor who hails from Samia Bugwe clarified.
Pr. Mangeni thanked the founder of the school John Sanya for starting the school in Buganda and not in his home district, and said this is the true spirit of cooperation and unity of Ugandans without attaching any questions to people’s ethnicity.
The school director John Sanya appreciated the Mengo administration for the open welcome policy to whoever wants to invest in Buganda, and added that this augurs well with the school policy of non-discrimination; he said that this is explained by the fact that majority of the learners in their school come from Buganda.
In retaliation, Sanya said, the school will continue to support the kingdom in all its developmental undertakings.
The director underscored the importance of training children with moral uprightness by bringing them close to God in their lives, without necessarily swaying them from their traditional religious faiths but by guiding them to observe Godliness.
He added that although the school was set up on a born-again foundation, there are no attempts to forcefully convert the children from their religions.
He was sad to note that there are hosts of youngsters in Kampala who stage music shows while half naked, and attributed this to lack of moral fiber in their upbringing, and charged schools to take it upon themselves to fight this by bringing up children in a holistic manner.
The head teacher Emmanuel Okello Kefa discouraged the tendency by some school administrators to engage children in night long teaching as examination times draw near, saying this is counterproductive.
Okello said that by denying children sleep when they are due to sleep, they are only wearing them out so that they get to examinations when they are sleepy, tired and weak.
The solution he advised, is to fruitfully use the time allocated for teaching, and allow the children their well-deserved rest at night, to get to the examinations with fresh minds.
The learners right from Baby Class to Primary Six showcased a number of performances that left their parents amused, and appreciative to the school for helping their children grow morally, academically, having their talents developed and groomed.
The presentations were followed by the awarding of certificates to the Top Class learners who have progressed to Primary One.
