23-Year-Old Man With a Toy Pistol Impersonates a CID Officer to Flee a Bodaboda Thief

Police at Kitintale are holding a 23-year-old man who impersonated a Crime Intelligence Directorate (CID) officer and attempted to flee a bodaboda thief from police custody.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson has identified the suspect as Mugume Langton, a resident of Namugongo, who was arrested at Kitintale Police Station on October 23, 2024, for impersonating a police officer.

Onyangi said Mugume falsely claimed to be an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) attached to the Crime Intelligence Directorate and was found with a toy pistol.

“He had visited the station to inquire about a motorcycle theft suspect in custody. Following his arrest, he was charged with personation and is currently being held for further investigation to determine if he’s linked to other crimes and uncover his motives,” he said.
