The outspoken catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Deogratius Kiibi Kateregga of St. Joseph Parish Mpigi has invoked God to send the holy spirit to bail Uganda out of a situation of condemnation, saying the country has been eaten away by rot characterized by corruption, pornography, outright theft and other forms of immorality.
He said that today politics has been turned into a haven for social misfits who he said, find solace in politics after failing in other upright forms of service delivery, with aspirants searching for votes in a do-or-die manner to be able to enter the thieving empire.
Fr. Kiibi made the remarks on Sunday while delivering a homily in a dedication and blessing mass for S.6 finalists of St. Balikuddembe Senior Secondary School Kisoga in Ntenjeru-Kisoga Town Council, Mukono district, who are writing their first UACE paper on November 11th.
The cleric pointed out that Ugandans have ignored the essence of God’s command of ‘Love Your Neighbour as You Love Yourself’, and wondered, “How can you claim to love your neighbour after stealing public money to construct bungalows in Uganda and abroad?”
He lamented that nowadays many Ugandans engage in pornography and other forms of immorality as a business, and implored students to desist from yearning to get jobs in high government offices with the sole agenda of stealing with impunity to get wealthy.
“Do not embarrass us when you go out there; go and defend the standards of catholicity instead of fighting tooth and nail to become ministers to go and steal,” the youthful priest advised.
He urged students to put their studies ahead of everything else, and cautioned that short of this, good things will come when they are dead, adding that theirs is a generation leading in the number of youths devastated by HIV/AIDS.
Fr. Kiibi urged the youths to use social media outlets for constructive purposes, warning that many who have sought short cuts through it have ended up dying prematurely or with a bleak and hopeless future ahead of them.
Speaking on behalf of the parents, Charles Kanaabi expressed appreciation to the school head for being accommodative to them in the wake of the biting economic crisis, and predicted that this way, she is destined to steer the school to further development and good performance.
In her speech, the head teacher Lydia Kagoya Lukwago said this year, the school is seating 308 ‘A’ level candidates other than last year’s 250 and promised good results basing on the resourcefulness and commitment put in by the teachers.
Kagoya hailed the parents for the commitment to response to the school’s financial demands, and said this has been a very strong base for the high expectations at the final count of the examinations.
And the Ssekiboobo (Mengo representative for Kyaggwe county) Vincent Matovu Bintubizibu informed parents that to expect from their children, it is incumbent upon them to make a similarly fair input by way of school requirements.
Matovu advised parents to be good friends to their children as a beginning point for inducing them to be good and productive learners.
In a rare manner, the parents appreciated the school administrators together with the S.6 class teachers as a way of appreciating their services.
