Police Refutes Bobi Wine’s Alleged Shooting

Uganda Police has cleared the air on the allegations that has been taking rounds on social media that National Unity Platform (NUP) President, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu a.k.a Bobi Wine has been shot at in the leg.

Rusoke Kituuma, the police spokesperson says that Kyagulanyi together with his supporters crashed with the police on Tuesday evening when they allegedly blocked the road.

Kituuma says Bobi Wine was coming from the NUP lawyer George Musisi’s home at Bulindo in Kira Municipality for a thanksgiving ceremony.

He has refuted the allegations by the NUP officials that he had been shot at saying that he just stumbled his led on his car as he entered to get off the scene.

“During the ensuing altercation, it is alleged that he sustained injuries. Police officers on site claim he stumbled while getting into his vehicle, causing the injury, whereas Hon. Kyagulanyi and his team assert that he was shot,” Kituuma alleges.

Police’s full statement reads…

“Today 03 September 2024, Hon. Kyagulanyi Robert was invited by Mr. George Musisi (Lawyer), to a Thanksgiving ceremony in Bulindo, Kiira Municipality, Wakiso District.

1. Hon. Kyagulanyi participated in the celebration, which concluded peacefully.

2. When Hon. Kyagulanyi left the venue, he and his team moved out of their cars and embarked on a procession up to Bulindo town; however, the police advised against it. Despite their guidance, he insisted on proceeding and closing the road, leading to police intervention to prevent the procession.

3. During the ensuing altercation, it is alleged that he sustained injuries. Police officers on site claim he stumbled while getting into his vehicle, causing the injury, whereas Hon. Kyagulanyi and his team assert that he was shot.

4. An investigation will be conducted to clarify the facts.

5. He was taken to Najaeem Medical Centre in Bulindo for first aid.

6. The police will investigate the alleged shooting and any related incidents.
