After getting the sad news of her money she thought would be doubled as she expected bumper profits which never materialized following the sudden closure of the company, Namuyimbwa was left in despair resulting in her death.
The 40-year-old woman was reported dead after losing sh15m to the Capital Chicken scam. The deceased is identified as Susan Namuyimbwa, a resident of Mawanda Road in Kawempe Division, Kampala district.
Namuyimbwa is one of the many Ugandans who lost over sh2bn in the infamous Capital Chicken scam. Her relatives told our reporter that she had tirelessly saved this money to help her cater for her ill health.
After getting the sad news of her money she thought would be doubled as she expected bumper profits which never materialized following the sudden closure of the company, Namuyimbwa was left in despair resulting in her death.
Namuyimbwa’s sister, Grace Nalule says that she intended to multiply her long time savings which was in return going to fund her major operation in one of the city hospitals.
Nalule said that Namuyimbwa had for some time suffered from intestinal obstruction and because the operation needed huge sums of money, she decided to work while saving in order to raise the money for the hospital operation.
“It was during that time when she heard of Capital Chicken, which she learnt that it kept money for the customers for huge profits after a period of time. She could not resist the temptation, she deposited all what she had whole-heartedly,” Nalule said.
She narrates that Namuyimbwa went into immense depression which also deteriorated her health condition after her money was completely stolen under the Capital Chicken scam.
“She separated from all of us and closed herself in the house alone with her phone switched off. It was at the last minute when she went to hospital, admitted and also without alerting any of her family members,” she narrated.
“Without eating and drinking, Namuyimbwa was only crying of stomach pain, which was as a result of intestinal obstruction which intensified after getting into depression.”
At one of the city hospitals, Namuyimbwa is said to have been asked to deposit sh6m before getting into the theatre for an operation, the money she did not have at the following the pain of losing her money to Capital Chicken!. With nothing to do, Namuyimbwa at last called her family members for help, though it is believed to have been a late call.
“We asked the hospital management to have her operated as we raise the money because she was in deep pain but they did not heed to our pleas. At last we paid the money and she was operated on,” Nalule recalls.
Maureen Tina, also a sister to Namuyimbwa said that she was taken back to the theatre three times until when she was declared dead.
Namuyimbwa was on Sunday buried at Kagulu-Ngombere village in Katosi Town Council in Mukono district.
The hundreds of mourners who attended her burial showed dismay to the government for its failure to regulate the companies which open up freely, advertise, collect people’s money and later disappear with it without any protection to the victims.
“Many other Capital Chicken scam victims must be going through equally painful experiences. Imagine after losing all that money, the government has not yet come out to cause any action that can show comfort to the victims! Now what is the way forward, why would we lose our loved ones in such awkward circumstances,” said one of the mourners.
