Fear on Wednesday gripped the residents of Nalubobya village in Kalongo sub-county, Nakasongola district when they landed on the bodies of a health worker, his wife and their six-months-baby when they had been brutally murdered during the night on Tuesday.
Sam Twinamazima the Police spokesperson in charge of Savana Region has identified the deceased as; Julius Mutumba, his wife Resty Nakayima, the councillor representing Bamugolodde parish at Kalongo sub-county council who is also a medical worker.
It is alleged that the assailants waylaid the deceased on Tuesday night when they were on their way back home at around 10:00pm and stabbed all of them to death. Mutumba was riding his wife Nakayima and their baby on a motorcycle Bajaj Boxer registration UFL 736K.
It has been alleged that Mutumba who had two health facilities at Bamugolodde and Nalubobya and by the time they were killed, had just picked his wife from their health facility at Nalubobya.
However, the Bamugolodde village chairperson, Fenekansi Kimeze, the assailants waylaid the deceased on their way from Manyangwa village and stabbed all of them to death.
Councillor Kalongo Bwanga says the residents are living in much fear following the fact that they do not know the motive of the assailants given the fact that Mutumba and his wife had no grudge with any one in the village.
“We are experiencing a lot of insecurity in this region from the time police closed police posts that included one at Kanumyata and Kaleire. This is the first time we are experiencing this kind of incident, let the responsible people boost our security,” Bwanga said.
The area Member of Parliament, Noah Mutebi Wanzara has shown dismay to this kind of murder which was committed to innocent people without any known reason. Wanzara has asked security to fight the increasing insecurity as it was done during the time of bijambiya which also caused havoc in this same area.
Twinamazima said that after killing the trio, the assailants disappeared into the forest and that by the time police reached the scene of the crime, they had already disappeared.
According to police, the bodies of the deceased had been taken to Nakasongola Health Centre IV for post-mortem as the investigations into this gruesome murder commenced.
Police have appealed to anyone who would be having some information that would lead to the assailants to alert them privately.
