Over 10,000 Students Under Go Military Drills by National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps

Consequently, the Secretariat recorded a huge milestone after holding a mega pass out in districts of Arua (Arua City) Obongi, Bushenyi, Kyotera and Wakiso. The pass outs attracted a total number of 9,445 patriots who underwent a seven-day patriotism and ideological orientation.

It is a norm for the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps (NSPC) to hold a super pass out event especially when students are going in for the holidays.

This is done in order to have young people inculcated with the spirit of conscious discipline, unity, hard work and love for the country.

Consequently, the Secretariat recorded a huge milestone after holding a mega pass out in districts of Arua (Arua City) Obongi, Bushenyi, Kyotera and Wakiso.

The pass outs attracted a total number of 9,445 patriots who underwent a seven-day patriotism and ideological orientation.

In Arua district, the training attracted a total number of 3579 students from 18 schools, Col. Anatoli Nuwagira who was also the chief guest representing Commissioner Seku urged patriots to use the knowledge and skills attained during the training for creating solutions to problems affecting different societies.

“Young men and women can be most useful to the society and also some innovative people that the country needs to create solutions to several problems. An ideologically patriotic youth or individual is an asset to the school and community at large,” said Nuwagira.

He added, “This world is changing so fast both scientifically, socially and economically but it will only be easy for ideological upright trained patriots. Remember you are the key players in your life time to ensure sustainable continuity up to the next generation.”

In a special way, Obongi district underlined a remarkable achievement by holding their first ever pass out in history with a total number of 2,541 students.

In Bushenyi district, a total number of 1,529 students underwent patriotism and development training. Other pass out events were held at Uganda Institute of Allied Health Management where 566 students were inculcated with the patriotism skills, St. Mary’s S.S Kyotera having a total student pass out of 534 as well as Trinity College Nabbingo in Wakiso district which registered 708 student patriots.

The training was organized by the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps (NSPC) at the climax of August with the intention of nurturing responsible citizens, a new generation with a positive attitude to themselves, their surrounding communities and families.

During the pass outs, patriots were urged to live exemplary lives and by doing so, the future of the country will be in good hands.

“Be future thinkers by considering the people around you but also do not forget your country. If you all live a model life, by detesting bad acts like alcoholism, early sexual activities engagement, dropping out of school, the future of our country will be bright,” Brig. Gen. Felix Kulayigye the UPDF Spokesperson said.

Kulayigye was speaking at St. Charles Lwanga Vocational SS in Bushenyi district as chief guest representing NSPC Commissioner Hellen Seku.

During the training, students were taken through a number of theoretical studies which include patriotism, mindset change and transformation, governance, social and lifestyle topics, personal development and welfare.

The students were also taken through military drills, self-defense and army skills which is in line with article 17(2) of the constitution which states that it will be a duty of all able-bodied citizens to undergo military training for the defence of this country.

It is also aligned with our mandate of inculcating patriotism norms and values to all students and youth of Uganda.

It is also the responsibility of the Secretariat to deepen the understanding of young patriots through their ladders of education by equipping them with better tools of analysis, critical and creative thinking skills.
