After his declaration, Muwanga Kivumbi vowed to revive the party’s grassroots movement and empower its youth leadership in his maiden address.

“I am deeply honored by this appointment and ready to support our president, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, in leading this country,” Kivumbi said, emphasising his commitment to advancing the party’s vision and priorities.

In a pointed message, Kivumbi urged party members to focus on the future rather than dwelling on past disputes, appearing to address the fallout with his predecessor.

“Forget those stuck and move on,” he declared, adding, “A river runs continuously, leaving stagnant waters in the swamps.”

A central theme of Kivumbi’s address was the mentorship and promotion of young leaders within NUP, whom he referred to as the party’s “foot soldiers.”

He stressed the importance of building a pipeline of vibrant, youthful leaders capable of sustaining NUP’s momentum.

“One of my main jobs is to mentor the young people. Where we had Ssegirinya, we must have his replacement,” Kivumbi stated, highlighting his resolve to ensure continuity and vitality within the party.

As Kivumbi takes on this key leadership role, he is tasked with uniting the party and strengthening its grassroots structures ahead of Uganda’s forthcoming political season.
