The school community of St. Thereza Namilyango Girls’ Boarding Primary School were on Thursday morning shocked by the news of the school farm manager who was severely cut by her ex-lover who later cut his throat and caused his own death.
The victim has been identified as Maureen Namwanje and the suspect as Henry Ssabakaaki who have been residing from the school quarters located at Namilyango Cell in Goma division, Mukono district.
The incident is said to have happened on Thursday morning in the school garden. By press time, the suspect (Ssabakaaki) was reported to have succumbed to the injuries while his victim Namwanje, had been referred to Mulago National Referral Hospital after receiving first aid at Mukono General Hospital where she had been rushed.
According to a fellow worker, Opio Okema, the two are said to have been lovers and when the woman decided to terminate the relationship, Ssabakaaki was not amused and decided to end her life. He therefore decided to fulfil his mission on the fateful Thursday morning.
On the fateful day, according to fellow workers, Namwanje, who is the school farm manager, began the day with her daily routine by inspecting workers in the school garden, and was followed by Ssabakaaki who kept hiding a machete behind his back.
According to Irene Nagawa, the sister to the victim, who was also at the crime scene, the man faced his victim whereupon she lightly asked him to get out of her way, because, she added, she was done with him.
“The next thing I saw was Maama Miracle (Namwanje) falling with a deep cut on the forehead and I ran making an alarm which attracted other workers”, the terrified Nagawa narrated.
Another worker Sulaiman Jjumba who also works in the garden, said he received a telephone call from an unnamed colleague asking him to immediately come to the garden with the security guard and on getting there, he saw Namwanje lying in a pool of blood with two cuts on the head, and multiple cuts on the arms and both thighs.
Sulaiman said the two were known to have been lovers but that the woman had decided to terminate the affair, with Ssabakaaki’s pleas to her to reverse her decision falling on deaf ears; this, in his opinion, could have triggered his murderous action to pacify the sour relationship.
“He also later cut his throat and was rushed to Mukono General Hospital where I hear he later died,” JJumba said.
This was confirmed by the Deputy Head teacher, Rose Namirembe who said she is the one who sanctioned a school vehicle to first rush Namwanje to the hospital. Namirembe added that Ssabakaaki who was picked by Police and taken to Mukono General Hospital later died from there.
Seeta Police Station detectives visited the scene and gathered related items including a blood stained machete to aid in the investigations.
