A six-year-old girl who was killed in a suspected ritual murder has led to the arrest of four people including her grandmother.

Mariam Naddumba, a Primary Two Pupil residing at Kisoga-Namanyonyi village in Kimenyedde sub-county, Mukono district and a daughter to Musa Ddumba of Makindye in Kampala went missing on Tuesday May 13, 2025 at around 6:30pm on her way from the garden with her grandmother, Jane Naburu.

Henry Wasswa, the village told Kyaggwe TV that Naddumba, who has been staying with her grandmother, Jane Nabura, a resident of this very village went missing on Tuesday evening when they were coming from the garden at around 6:30pm.

Jackson Ntege, one of the suspects who directed the locals where the body of the girl had been dumped.

Naddumba’s brother with whom they have been staying with at their grandmother’s home told the residents that before they left the garden, their grandmother received a phone call and someone asked her why they had taken so long before getting back home.

“On our way back home, grandmother passed by the home of another old woman, Florence Zalwango who served her with a cup of tea. It was at this moment that grand asked Naddumba to go back to the garden and pick her (Naddumab’s) sandals which she had left there,” the young boy, whose names have been concealed revealed adding;

“We last saw Naddumba at this moment. When grandmother realized she was not coming back from the garden where she had gone to pick the sandals, she asked me to go and find out what was delaying her. Unfortunately, I went, looked and called her from there but she was not there.”

The chairperson Wasswa said that Nabura reported the girl’s disappearance to the local council at around 8:00pm after looking for her from all the places they expected her to have been but in vain.

He added that she was referred to Kimenyedde Police Station where she reported the case of a child’s disappearance in the morning. Together with the residents, they resumed the search but still they failed to find the girl.

“The locals got suspicious because at the home of Zalwanga, over three months ago, there was still another child who out of the blue disappeared and to date, the child has not yet been recovered. Their suspicion led to the arrest of Zalwango and another male person from that home,” he said.

He added that as the search continued, another male person from that same home who had been hiding was caught by the locals and when they gave him a few slaps, he revealed that the girl had been killed and some of her body parts had been taken away.

Fortunately, police saved him from the mob after giving hints of where the body of the girl had been dumped.

Residents said that upon following what that suspect had told them, they landed on the lifeless body of Naddumba, lying in a maize plantation with the intestines out and the private parts copped off and missing.

Michael Bakka, the village defense secretary said that according to the scene where the deceased’s body was found, it appeared as if she had been killed from another place and just been dumped there.

“There was no sign of any scuffle and no blood that had come out of the body as it had been cut to get the parts which the assailants disappeared with,” said Bakka.
