As traditional academic giants countrywide celebrate excellent 2024 UCE results, Buvuma islanders are singing praises to President Museveni for construction of Nairambi Seed School, in addition to introduction of the competence-based education system which they say has unearthed their children’s hidden potential.
Opened in 2019 with only 15 students in Senior One, Nairambi Seed School has rapidly expanded to a population of 870 students with classes up to S.6 and with UNEB examination centres for both ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels.

The headmistress Faridah Namusisi who was all smiles during the interview, proudly announced that all her 71 candidates passed with Result I and all qualified for the award of certificates. She said the learners performed extraordinarily well especially in science subjects and project work.
“We as islanders are very grateful to President Museveni for the decision to build this school, and to his wife the Minister for Education Mrs. Janat Kataha Museveni for introduction of the competence-based curriculum which we are sure is destined to change the education outlook in the islands,” the headteacher said.
Namusisi said the best ten performers came out with an overall grade of 9As, 59Bs and 3Cs. They include, Mulobole Sirajje, Ssembatya Jorvan, Maiso Sumayah, Lirwana Bright, Naluwembe Daphine, Namukuve Shadia, Nakanaabi Resty, Ssentamu Abdallah, Wazabwe Gilbert, Nalwadda Shalom, Kiirya George among others
The parents generally echoed the headteacher in thanking President Museveni for considering the islands for a modern school. Iruba Salim Maiso, the father to Sumayah Maiso, one of the best performing students, said this is unprecedented in the history of Buvuma.

“Museveni has given us new hope and he should start considering the islands for a university so that Buvuma becomes totally independent from the mainland as far as education facilities are concerned,” Maiso said.
Another parent Babirye Donanta said she was pleased that her grandson Ssembatya Jovan emerged one of the best performers. She appealed to President Museveni to furnish the school with all the requirements to fully give it the capacity to equitably march with schools on the mainland.
“Previously, most of the students would drop out of school after finishing Primary Seven and it would be only those with wealthy parents who would continue with secondary education on the mainland. Fortunately, with the seed schools coming up in Buvuma line ours, our education future is very bright,” he said.
Janat Namusobya, another parent, thanked God for President Museveni’s visionary leadership, adding, “We can now see light at the end of the tunnel, and we are sure we cannot go wrong with such a facility and competent teachers”.

After scooping A and B in the science subjects, Ssembatya is aspiring for the Physics, Economics and Mathematics (PEM) combination in A Level, Jorvan Ssembatya believes this will be his beginning point on his journey to become an engineer.
He thanked the bursar for accommodating him with his partial payment of school requirements all the time, and the teachers for commitment in teaching the learners.
