Lubongoya says that the doctors advised that Machete’s organs were at the verge of getting permanent damage if he continued with his hunger strike.
s part of the protest of continued alleged unlawful imprisonment for the National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters and trial in the General Court Martial, one of the prisoners, Yasin Ssekitoleko Machete resolved to go on a hunger strike.
However, after 16 days of no food, Machete realized that nothing was forthcoming. According to the NUP Secretary General’s communication on X, the latter suspended the strike on Women’s day.
“He suspended the hunger strike as a gift to her mother who was deeply worried that his death was imminent,” Lubogonya’s statement reads in part.

He says that the doctors advised that Machete’s organs were destined to get permanent damage if he continued with his hunger strike.
“He is however still demanding for justice. He appreciates all of you who have raised voices for him and other political prisoners and requests that you continue doing so,” he said.
