President Yoweri Museveni had by 10:00am this morning arrived at the Electoral Commission headquarters at Lweza in Wakiso district for nomination to be declared a candidate for the 2026 presidential elections.

After Museveni, the EC is ready to also nominate on the same day, Robert Kasibante of the National Peasants Party and Conservative Party’s candidate, Elton Joseph Mabirizi.

Museveni who was flanked by first lady Janat Kataha Museveni, was accompanied by high profile party officials including NRM National Vice Chairperson, Haji Moses Kigongo, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, the Speaker of Parliament, Annet Anita Among, Minister Jim Muhwezi, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Affairs, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, and many others.

According to an earlier programme, the National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine was also scheduled to be nominated today, but his nomination was put off till tomorrow 24th September, and speculation is high whether rescheduling his nomination was calculated to create room for President Museveni to finalize his process first.

The frenzied supporters clad in yellow and ululating to loud songs in support of candidate Museveni and blowing vuvuzelas and whistles were in an unconcealed jovial mood, expressing eagerness to meet their nominated candidate.
