“Seeing that they came armed to the teeth to injure or kill our people, we have decided to postpone our campaign in Iganga. We hope to engage the Electoral Commission so they make it clear that I and the National Unity Platform are now allowed to campaign in Iganga Municipality while other candidates campaign there!” Kyagulanyi said.
National Unity Platform (NUP) has halted its presidential campaigns in Iganga Municipality following the continued security blocking of its presidential candidate’s campaign rallies in urban centres.
According to Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, the NUP presidential candidate, the last campaign rally which the military has blocked was slated to take place in Iganga Municipality today, on October 3, 2025.
Shared on his social media handles, Kyagyulanyi has informed his supporters that the current situation which includes making them move longer distances through poor roads in villages and blocking them from accessing the urban areas cannot allow them to continue with the campaigns.
“Blocked from proceeding to Iganga for our campaigns by the military and police! Although two other presidential candidates have so far campaigned in Iganga Municipality, the RDC, RPC and DPC in Iganga have insisted that we must not campaign in Iganga Municipality. They started by intimidating venue owners until we secured Oxford High School playground,” he said, adding;
“This morning, these partisan criminals insisted that we must not campaign anywhere in the Municipality. This in addition to the long, dusty roads they’re forcing us to use! Seeing that they came armed to the teeth to injure or kill our people, we have decided to postpone our campaign in Iganga. We hope to engage the Electoral Commission so they make it clear that I and the National Unity Platform are now allowed to campaign in Iganga Municipality while other candidates campaign there! #FreeUgandaNow.”
