In his letter, Rubongoya clarified that although the NUP is currently challenging the referenced amendment before the constitutional court, they are cognizant that it is the current and binding law.

After National Unity Platform’s (NUP) Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya filing an application for his party to sign the MOU to be party to the Inter Party Organization for Dialogue (IPOD), arguing that the amendment by parliament to the political Parties and Organizations Act (2005) makes it mandatory for all political parties under the National Consultative Forum to be part of the IPOD (for political parties with representation in Parliament), the Vice chairperson for People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), Dr. Michael Lulume Bayigga has commended NUP for the bold move.

Lulume said that by asking to be part of the IPOD, NUP is asking for what rightly belongs to them.

Dr. Lulume who also doubles as the Buikwe South Member of Parliament, through a communication he passed on his social media handle on Thursday noted that IPOD funds were voted by parliament and that according to the Political Parties and Organizations Act, all parties represented in parliament have an equal share.

He therefore urged the PFF Secretary General, and Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda and Erias Lukwago, the PFF chairperson to follow Rubongoya’s move because he argued, PFF is a registered party with representation in parliament.

Lulume also advised them to alert Democratic Front leader Mathias Mpuuga to wake up and also demand for what is by right their share.

In his letter, Rubongoya clarified that although the NUP is currently challenging the referenced amendment before the constitutional court, they are cognizant that it is the current and binding law.  “The National Unity Platform has been and remains an active member of the National Consultative Forum,” he added.

In light of this, the Secretary General noted, the National Unity Platform would like to sign the MOU given that they are members of the applicable constitutive organ of the National Consultative Forum by law, as they await the decision of the Constitutional Court.
