In response, Nambooze challenged Bakaluba to surrender one of his schools to the government with learners studying for free, to practically show that he is a patriot, rather than feeding Ugandans with lies when he is actually amassing wealth.

As the vote hunting spree rages on countrywide, inner circles in the National Unity Platform (NUP) indicate that there is a calculated move by former party aspirants who were denied the party card, to frustrate political agendas of flag bearers by storming the election bid with ulterior motive of catalyzing steps leading to loss in their 2026 (flag bearers’) political bids.

In the latest development, Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze Bakireke, in a campaign rally staged on Sunday November 23, 2025 at Nassuuti Cell in Ntaawo ward, Mukono Central Division, said that her opponents, Mukono district chairperson, Rev. Dr. Peter Bakaluba Mukasa and Mukono District Woman MP Hanifah Nabukeera, both former NUP members up to the time they were denied the party cards, have resorted to engage in activities geared at making Nambooze lose the battle.

From left, Mukono Municipality MP, Betty Nambooze Bakireke, Mukono District Woman MP, Hanifah Nabukeera and Rev. Dr. Peter Bakaluba Mukasa, Mukono district chairman who are all vying for Mukono Municipality MP seat.

She asserted that when the two were denied cards for the LC V Chairmanship and the Woman MP seat respectively on grounds of incompetencies, they turned their anguish on her with alleged false claims that she influenced the decision to deny them the flag bearer’s cards. What everybody wonders, as she said, is why they both decided to rush for the Mukono Municipality MP seat.

Nambooze said that she has confirmed beyond doubt that the two have ganged up with NRM leaders to wage a battle against her and make her lose the forthcoming elections although, she claims, she has in the past served Mukono people satisfactorily leading to her subsequent victories over the years. She predicted an abortion of these sinister plots.

“These people’s charge against me is for always being vocal in the house. What is unfortunate, is the fact that as voters in other constituencies are looking for replacement of their non-contributive legislators, Bakaluba and Nabukeera are plotting to lure you into losing your working and vocal MP! Watch out!” Nambooze said.

In addition to incumbent Nambooze, Mukono Municipality seat is this time round attracting Bakaluba, Nabukeera, Andrew Ssenyonga, Ssenseko Kulubya and Herbert Oromolo Omo (all independents), Dr. Daisy Sarah Nabatanzi Ssonko (NRM), George Fred Kagimu (DP), Allan Mawanda (DF), Sarah Nakintu (PFF), and Dunstan Mbogo (FDC).

Over a period, many of these and their supporters have been insisting that they replace Nambooze for serving only the purpose of talking too much with no tangible results.

She however laughed off Bakaluba saying that although she was a key player in helping him win the district chairmanship in 2021, he went wayward on assuming office and started fighting personal battles instead of performing to expectation, including failure to help youths get jobs. Elaborating, Nambooze cited Bakaluba’s failure to name a district service committee for a long time (three years), and that up to date, the commission is not in operation over his misdeeds.

One of Bakaluba’s grounds while looking for votes is the argument that Nambooze has not erected even a single tomato selling stall in the last 20 years she has been in leadership, unlike himself who has built at least a school almost in all the constituencies in the district, with two schools in Mukono Municipality.

In response, Nambooze challenged Bakaluba to surrender one of his schools to the government with learners studying for free, to practically show that he is a patriot, rather than feeding Ugandans with lies when he is actually amassing wealth.

In 2009, Bakaluba lost to Nambooze the then Mukono North constituency which was also covering present-day Mukono Municipality, in a by-election and since then, she has been in charge.

Mukono North was however divided in 2010 following the formation of Mukono Municipality with two divisions, Mukono Central and Goma. Mukono North remained with two sub-counties, Nama and Kyampisi.

After contesting for and previously losing Mukono North as a Democratic Party flagbearer to NRM’s Ronald Kibuule, Nabukeera in 2021 shifted to Mukono district woman MP seat and won on NUP ticket.

However, Nabukeera is said to have mounted a one-man kingdom by waging war with almost all fellow leaders in the district.

As Nabukeera spits fire against Nambooze, the latter challenged her saying that if she is the one who created poor rapport with her, how come she (Nabukeera) is also at loggerheads with Abdallah Kiwanuka Mulimamayuuni of Mukono North, Ssimbwa Fred Kaggwa of Nakifuma and many other NUP leaders in the district?

Nambooze said that apart from being silent in parliament and in the constituency, the poor working relationship with her fellow leaders was among the reasons that contributed to Nabukeera’s failure to secure the NUP flag for the district woman MP seat.
