Contestants in Mukono district’s sub-county chairmanship elections have complained about low voter turnout, attributing it to relaxed response from voters. They have appealed to the Electoral Commission to step up mobilization efforts in future elections.

The contestant for Mukono Central Division chairmanship NRM flag bearer Umar Ssebuyungo who had just cast his ballot at UCC Church at Nassuuti, said that despite the low voter turn up in many polling centres, he was optimistic that he was destined to record resounding victory.

He however appealed to voters to keep calm throughout the exercise and desist from violence for whatever reason.

And in Nakisunga sub-county, one-time LC V Vice Chairperson, Stephen Mufuuwa was satisfied with the turn up of his voters, and was confident victory was coming his way.

“My voters have come in big numbers because they are aware that they are sending into office a man who holds in his hands construction of schools, roads, hospitals and other infrastructure”, he said.

Emphasizing his victory confidence, Mufuuwa said the NRM manifesto on which he is standing promises what the people need for development.

And the incumbent chairman Douglas Namujaali of Namataba Town Council expressed satisfaction with the biometric voter verification kits (BVVK) and noted that whoever raises complaints based on the gadgets will only be looking for scapegoat for his personal weakness.

Namujaali said, “the machine responds to the thumb adequately and, like a bank cannot release money to a wrong bank customer, the BVVK machine only rejects the wrong persons; whoever claims foul play will be a liar”.
