Makerere University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Tumusiime Mutebile Foundation to operationalise the Professor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile Centre of Excellence.

The agreement was signed on Thursday afternoon by the Acting Vice Chancellor of Makerere University, Sarah Ssali, alongside Betty Mutebile and former Prime Minister John Patrick Amama Mbabazi.

The centre is named in honor of the late Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile, the long-serving former Governor of the Bank of Uganda, who is widely recognized for his contribution to economic policy and financial sector reforms in Uganda.

Several prominent leaders and officials attended the signing ceremony, including former Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda and veteran politician Matthew Rukikaire.

Representatives from the Makerere University Guild were also present, among them the 70th Guild President Yusuf Kiranda, the 91st Guild President Churchill James Ssentamu, and the 90th Guild President Lubega Nsamba.

During the event, Ibrahim Mike Okumu was announced as the first Director of the Professor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile Centre of Excellence.

The new centre is expected to serve as a hub for research, policy dialogue, and academic work focusing on economic management, public policy, and development issues in Uganda and beyond.
