Former National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Agnes Kirabo Nantongo has petitioned the High Court in Luweero seeking to overturn the election of Brenda Nabukenya as the District Woman Member of Parliament.

Kirabo is challenging the results of the January 2026 election in which Nabukenya, representing the National Unity Platform (NUP), was declared the winner by the Luweero District Returning Officer, Sam Rutemba Agaba.

According to official results released by the Electoral Commission, Nabukenya secured 67,399 votes, defeating four contenders. Kirabo, her closest rival, polled 55,696 votes, leaving a margin of 11,703 votes.

In her petition, Kirabo—who also serves as the incumbent Central Youth Member of Parliament—argues that Nabukenya’s declaration was “erroneous, illegal, and contrary” to the provisions of the Parliamentary Elections Act.

She is now asking the High Court to nullify the election outcome and grant appropriate relief.

The petition sets the stage for a legal battle that could determine the final outcome of the Luweero Woman MP seat, pending the court’s review of the electoral process and evidence presented by both parties.
