Charles Maganda, the chairperson of Bugade Town Council, confirmed the incident, stating that the tragic death occurred during a light evening drizzle.
Fear gripped residents of Bugade Village in Bugade Town Council, Mayuge District, on Sunday evening after a lightning strike killed a medical officer.
The deceased has been identified as Christine Nabitosi, 45, who was attached to Kityerera Government Prison in Mayuge District. Nabitosi had recently been transferred from Mbale as part of routine staff redeployments.

Maganda called on the government to install lightning arresters in public institutions, including schools, health facilities, police stations, and prisons, to help prevent similar incidents and save lives.
The deceased’s body was transported by police to Mayuge Health Centre IV mortuary for a postmortem examination, where it remained as of Monday morning.
