Police in Kampala have identified the suspect behind a deadly attack at a daycare centre in Ggaba that claimed the lives of four young children.
The suspect, a 39-year-old Okello Christopher Onyum was arrested on Thursday, April 2, 2026, after police responded to a distress call at around 11:00 a.m. at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program in Ggaba Parish, Makindye Division.
According to preliminary reports, the suspect allegedly attacked children at the facility before officers arrived and apprehended him at the scene.

The deceased have been identified as Eteku Gideon, a two-year-old boy; Kaise Alungat, a two-year-old girl; Ignatius Sserwange, a three-year-old boy; and Ryan Odeke, a two-year-old boy.
The suspect is currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation as investigations continue to determine the motive behind the attack and other surrounding circumstances.
The Uganda Police Force has extended its heartfelt condolences to the affected families and pledged to carry out a thorough investigation to ensure justice for the victims.
Police say more information will be released as inquiries into the tragic incident continue.
