President Yoweri Museveni has in the past publicly questioned the source of Among’s wealth, including her reported business empire and ownership of high-value properties.
The Director of Communication and Public Affairs at Parliament, Chris Obore, has been arrested in what appears to be an intensifying crackdown linked to ongoing corruption investigations surrounding Speaker Anita Annet Among and her close associates.
Obore was reportedly arrested from Mukono on Saturday, May 16, 2026, by security operatives. Authorities had not officially disclosed the charges against him by press time, but his arrest comes amid mounting allegations of corruption, illicit enrichment, and abuse of public resources involving senior parliamentary officials.
Civil society groups have previously named Obore in the controversial online campaign dubbed Uganda Parliament Exhibition, which alleges that billions of shillings in taxpayers’ money were diverted for private gain and for so-called corporate social responsibility activities allegedly aimed at building political support for Among.

The arrest marks a dramatic turn for Obore, one of Parliament’s most outspoken communications officials and a vocal defender of Among in recent weeks as political tensions over the Speakership race intensified.
Just days before his arrest, Obore repeatedly dismissed claims that Among was under political and legal pressure, insisting that hidden forces were plotting against her.
“All evil plans against AAA are known. The planners are known. By God’s grace AAA has favor that she is informed in real time. They are using Speakership race as cover. But Speakership contest shouldn’t generate tension over nothing. It will come & go. It’s only 529 people to vote,” Obore wrote on May 3 on social media.
Earlier, on April 30, he accused unnamed actors of orchestrating blackmail campaigns against the Speaker through fake social media posts.
“All right-thinking members of the public are hereby asked to be aware of the many fake social media quotes being attributed to Speaker AAA. The race for Speakership has degenerated to blackmail using social media agents. The idea is to make AAA respond but she will not,” he posted.
Obore’s political alignment with Among reportedly strengthened after she rose to the position of Deputy Speaker, a period during which he was said to have fallen out with former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga amid uncertainty surrounding his role at Parliament.
Meanwhile, security pressure around Among herself continued to escalate on Saturday as operatives from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) reportedly raided her residences in Nakasero and Kigo.
Sources familiar with the operation said investigators were conducting searches for documents, electronic devices, and financial records believed to be linked to ongoing corruption and money laundering investigations.
The developments have further fueled speculation over a deepening power struggle within the ruling establishment ahead of the anticipated Speakership contest. Reports circulating in political circles indicate that security deployments, including personnel from the Special Forces Command (SFC), could remain stationed at Among’s residences during the unfolding investigations.

President Yoweri Museveni has in the past publicly questioned the source of Among’s wealth, including her reported business empire and ownership of high-value properties. On one occasion, Among defended her wealth by describing herself as an entrepreneur with multiple successful businesses. In another instance, the President reportedly demanded explanations regarding a house linked to her in London, United Kingdom.
The latest arrests and raids now place some of Parliament’s most influential figures at the center of one of the country’s most politically sensitive investigations in recent years.
