Traffic along the Kampala–Jinja Highway was temporarily disrupted on Saturday night after a trailer caught fire in Mabira Forest, Buikwe District, blocking part of the busy roadway and causing long traffic delays.

According to the Traffic Police spokesperson, ASP Michael Kananura, the incident occurred near the junction leading to Mother Kevin College in Mabira Forest. The fire forced traffic to slow significantly as emergency responders and traffic officers worked to contain the situation and manage the flow of vehicles.

One passenger who was travelling to Buwenge in Jinja and was caught in the traffic jam told Kyaggwe TV that the journey took much longer than expected due to the incident. Anthony Palapande said that he reached home late at 1:00am.

Kananura said the affected section of the highway has since been reopened after the burnt trailer was removed from the road. However, traffic remained slow as authorities continued clearing the scene and restoring normal traffic flow.

He urged motorists to remain patient, observe traffic regulations, and follow instructions from officers deployed at the scene.

Kananura also warned drivers against dangerous overtaking, saying such behaviour could trigger additional crashes and worsen congestion.

The cause of the fire had not been established by the time of publication, and no injuries or fatalities had been reported. Police said investigations into the incident are ongoing and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
