The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has appointed Brig Gen Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru as the Acting Commander of the Special Forces Command (SFC), with immediate effect.
In the same announcement made on Monday, Gen Muhoozi granted Brig Gen Nyakikuru the acting rank of Major General, elevating him to lead the elite military unit responsible for the security of the President, key national installations, and other strategic operations.
Acting Maj Gen Nyakikuru takes over from Maj Gen David Mugisha, who will begin preparations to attend the National Defence College (NDC) course abroad in the coming months as part of his professional military development.

The UPDF commended Maj Gen Mugisha for his service at the helm of the Special Forces Command, describing his tenure as outstanding.
“The UPDF thanks Major General David Mugisha for the outstanding tour of duty as Commander SFC and wishes him good luck in his strategic security studies,” the military said in a statement.
The force also congratulated Acting Maj Gen Nyakikuru on his appointment and promotion, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the Special Forces Command.
“We also congratulate Acting Major General Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru on his deserved appointment and promotion. We also wish him good luck in his new duties,” the statement added.
The announcement was made by Col Chris Magezi, the Acting Director of Defence Public Information at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA)/UPDF.
The Special Forces Command is one of the UPDF’s most strategic formations, tasked with protecting the President, members of the First Family, vital national infrastructure, and carrying out specialised military operations. The latest leadership changes take effect immediately as the force continues its routine command transition and professional development programme.
