RDC Bans Cash, Expensive Gifts for P.7, S.4, S.6 Candidates

Jinja District Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Hassan Kasibante has directed all government and private schools in the district to stop parents from giving cash and expensive gifts to Primary Seven, Senior Four and Senior Six candidates.

 

Kasibante said the directive takes immediate effect and is aimed at protecting learners from feeling inferior or disadvantaged because of their parents’ financial circumstances as they prepare for their examinations.

 

“I have directed all government and private schools in Jinja District to stop parents from bringing cash and expensive gifts to P.7, S.4 and S.6 candidates, effective immediately,” Kasibante said.

He said no child from a humble family should be made to feel inferior or unhappy because their parents cannot afford to give them money or expensive gifts.

Kasibante urged school administrators to protect the dignity of every learner and ensure that candidates remain focused on their examinations instead of comparing the financial support and gifts received by their colleagues.

 

He warned headteachers who defy the directive that they will face disciplinary action, including suspension.

Private schools that fail to comply with the directive also risk having their operating licences withdrawn through the relevant authorities, he warned.

The RDC urged parents and schools to prioritise the learners’ academic preparation and wellbeing as they approach their national examinations.
