A businessman has been remanded to prison over allegations of obtaining sh62m from a man by falsely claiming to sell him a piece of land in Garuga, Wakiso District.
Gashari Samuel was arraigned before the Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court on Friday evening and charged with obtaining money by false pretence, contrary to Section 285 of the Penal Code Act.
The prosecution alleges that between 2018 and 2019, Gashari obtained Shs62m from Denis Sekate Kato after allegedly misrepresenting that he was selling him 50 decimals of land in Garuga, Katabi Town Council, Entebbe Municipality, Wakiso District.

However, the prosecution alleges that Gashari did not own the land he purported to sell to the complainant.
Gashari was produced in court following investigations conducted by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
The court remanded him until October 29, 2026, when he is expected to return for further proceedings.
The allegations against Gashari remain unproven, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a competent court of law.
