Kamugisha was arrested following complaints from members of the public during the national “Expose the Corrupt” campaign held in Rwampara District.
Kamugisha Asaph was arraigned before Ndeija Magistrate’s Court in Rwampara District on two counts of obtaining money by false pretence.
He was remanded until November 3, 2026, as investigations into the alleged job scam continue.
According to the prosecution, Kamugisha allegedly obtained the money from several victims on February 23, 2026, at Kanoni Town in Rwampara District, claiming that he could help them secure employment with the district local government.
The prosecution alleges that he made the claims with intent to defraud the victims.
Kamugisha was arrested following complaints from members of the public during the national “Expose the Corrupt” campaign held in Rwampara District.
The campaign was spearheaded by the Minister for Local Government, Balaam Barugahara, and provided an avenue for members of the public to report suspected corruption and other forms of abuse of office.
The complaints prompted investigations by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, working in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
The investigations culminated in Kamugisha’s arrest and subsequent arraignment before court.
Obtaining money by false pretence is a criminal offence under Ugandan law. However, the allegations against Kamugisha remain unproven, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a competent court.
