St. Julian 3-0 Amus College
In their first time appearance in the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) boys’ football championship, St. Julian High School Seeta in Mukono Municipality has emerged champions of the 2024 tournament.
St. Julian convincingly outcompeted Amus College School in a 3-0 victory at Mpungu Arena in Masaka City on Sunday May 5, 2024.
James Ssekate (brace) and Simon Wanyama scored the goals as St. Julian lifted the title on their first attempt.
Patrick Ssenkusu nearly fired St. Julian ahead in the ninth minute but the early effort was cleared off the line.
Six minutes later, Ssekate broke the deadlock with an easy tap-in from close range after goalkeeper Ben Sinalya fumbled with Elisa Mukasa’s powerful effort.
Ssekamate doubled St. Julian’s lead in the 20th minute with an easy tap-in from close range after Amus’ backline failed to clear their lines.
Amus tried to respond but St. Julian was well organised at the back holding onto their 2-0 lead into the break.
In the second half, Amus threw bodies upfront trying to pull back one but failed to put the ball on target.
Devis Busulwa’s header and Samuel Owalamu’s effort from close range went wide of the target as Amus College tried to launch a comeback.
With 15 minutes on the clock, Toto Majub denied a goal-bound effort with his hand before he was sent off.
Wanyama stepped up and converted from the 12-yard mark to extend St. Julian’s well-deserved lead.
To reach the finals, St Julian eliminated Bukedea Comprehensive College on penalties while Amus College knocked out holders St. Mary’s Kitende.
