This is an annual occasion organized by the Catholic Secretariat at Nsambya in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and various non-governmental organizations.
The Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, Dr. Paul Ssemogerere has appealed to government to step up action towards containing human trafficking by arresting and prosecuting perpetrators including traffickers, coordinators, transporters and those who buy trafficking victims in what he referred to as an organized manner.
Ssemogerere lamented that many Ugandans including women, youths and children are lured and trafficked especially to Arab countries, where they are treated in inhuman ways, and added that the evil begins right here where unscrupulous people traffic Karimojong children to Kampala to use them for monetary gains.
“This is the time to pray for those engaged in this inhuman business to get a change of heart, and for the entire community to show kindness for victims; they need counselling to begin life afresh,” the Archbishop noted.
He was conducting a prayer service for the nation to overcome the evil which he noted has reached unprecedented levels, held at Nsambya Sharing Hall in Makindye Division.

It was attended by believers from other denominations like the Protestants, the Orthodox Church followers, Pentecostals, Muslims and those from the Bahai Faith.
The Assistant Co-ordinator for Prevention of Human Trafficking in the Ministry of Internal Affairs Basalirwa Kigenyi Derek assured the congregation that government is leaving no stone unturned in fighting the evil, and that it is going to train investigators and other stakeholders.
