“We have resolved to inject funds in the campaign geared at ensuring that our President Kyagulanyi takes the highest office, and all those vying for posts of councilors, division chairpersons, mayor, come and we show our support; let us make our voice heard”, Bakaluba said in the mobilization campaign.

Mukono district treasurer for the National Unity Platform (NUP) Rev. Peter Bakaluba Mukasa who is vying to unseat Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament, Betty Nambooze Bakireke on an independent ticket, has rallied NUP leaning independents in the district to form a joint campaign team for their party principal, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu in his bid to take national leadership in the 2026 presidential elections.

Bakaluba who is also Mukono district chairperson was denied the NUP flag for the same seat whereupon he opted to take on the Municipality parliamentary seat occupied by Nambooze, believed by many to have masterminded the decision to deny Bakaluba the district chairmanship in option for former Mukono South MP, Johnson Muyanja Ssenyonga.

According to Bakaluba’s plan, NUP independents have resolved to hold harmonization and planning meetings beginning with Mukono Municipality, to pave ways for making posters for themselves and for Kyagulanyi, set a campaign road map and hold joint meetings ahead of the elections for themselves and their President Kyagulanyi.

“We have resolved to inject funds in the campaign geared at ensuring that our President Kyagulanyi takes the highest office, and all those vying for posts of councilors, division chairpersons, mayor, come and we show our support; let us make our voice heard”, Bakaluba said in the mobilization campaign.

According to his plan, Mukono Central Division aspirants will hold their meeting on Thursday 25th September 2025 at Green Beach Gardens in Ggulu ward, while aspirants in Goma Division will converge at NUP House Seeta on Friday 26th Sept. 2025. Both meetings kick off at 10:00am.

Bakaluba’s decision of uniting all the independents in Mukono Municipality into one force however leaves Nambooze at crossroads because most of her ardent supporters and experienced leaders were denied NUP tickets, a move she (Nambooze) claimed had been instigated by some party leaders in Mukono.

It is however not known whether all the independents will opt to go with Bakaluba for the sugar-coated bait he has put before them including footing costs for printing their campaign posters, providing public address system for their joint campaigns, among others.
