On Tuesday morning, Sam Mugumya entered NIM Hotel in Nyamitanga Division, Mbarara, for breakfast, but had hardly completed his meal when plain clothed men wielding guns pounced on him, bundled him in a waiting ‘drone’ minibus and drove him off to an unknown destination.
Mugumya, a former aide to incarcerated Dr. Kizza Besigye, was recently released from Ndolo Prison in the DRC where he was jailed for many years.
Police and the UPDF have denied knowledge of any issue to do with his arrest or his whereabouts. The army spokesperson Felix Kulaigye said they cannot be held responsible, especially given that his arrestors were not wearing army uniform.
And police authorities said abduction is not their method of arresting suspects. His friend Sam Byaruhanga said he was picked as he was beginning to take his breakfast.
