The Bishop of Mukono Diocese, Enos Kitto Kagodo has lashed at the government for what he called interference in the normal running of schools by attacking school heads asking parents for money to pay for their children’s meals at schools, and referred to this tendency as inhuman and mean.
Speaking in an angry tone, the bishop suggested that if the government cannot tolerate ways of the church in running their schools, it (government) should simply pull out of these schools and let the church run them with or without government assistance.
“There’s no hidden agenda in asking parents for money for children’s porridge; this is a modern generation where we cannot educate children on empty stomachs. In your times, you used to feed on very hard yams but times have changed and this can no longer be the case,” Kagodo angrily pointed out.
He was addressing mourners at the funeral service preceding the burial of Loy Ketra Babirye Kwagala, the former head teacher for Ssese Church of Uganda Nyenga in Buikwe district, Mukono Diocese, who was also a minister in St. Stephen’s Church Njeru in Nakibizzi Archdeaconry. She was buried at Bulopa village, Kamuli district in Busoga Diocese.

Without elaborating, the prelate said that if parents yearn for education where they do not pay anything, they should be ready to reap nothing.
He thanked the government for extending a helping hand to church schools adding however that this is not enough, and urged parents to join hands with the government by making an input to top up inadequate government assistance of teachers and scholastic materials.

Eulogizing the late Kwagala, Kagodo said she was a loving, charming teacher and minister who never believed in the wrong theory implying that UPE learners should not have meals at schools simply because they are Museveni’s children.
He appealed to believers to cling to Jesus Christ in all their undertakings, noting that there is no everlasting life elsewhere other than in Jesus Christ, and cautioned ladies not to trust in their anatomical beauty, and wealthy men in their riches, because he advised, all these are in vain when it comes to everlasting life.
