Eyewitnesses reported a loud blast followed by smoke and flames inside the sauna area.

Preliminary reports suggest a possible heat system failure, but police have launched investigations to establish the exact cause.

The Buziga explosion adds to a worrying trend of sauna-related incidents in Kampala and surrounding areas;

In 2019, Kyaliwajjala (Wakiso District): A steam bath boiler explosion at Marco Gym and Spa injured five people after a faulty control valve caused overheating.

In 2011, Ntinda (Kampala): Eight people were injured when a gas cylinder exploded at a health club sauna.

Authorities have urged operators of gyms, spas, and resorts to enforce stricter safety protocols, including regular inspections, installation of pressure-relief valves, and improved emergency response measures.

Police say a detailed report on the Buziga incident will be released after investigations are concluded.
