C-Care Uganda, formerly known as International Hospital Kampala (IHK) based in Namuwongo in the outskirts of Kampala, has held its annual awards ceremony by recognizing operational excellence in health care, at a function held at Mestil hotel.

The health care institution exemplified itself as a key player in environmental preservation by planting a tree for every baby born at their facilities scattered around the country.

The Commissioner for Clinical Services at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Ronny Bahatungire who graced the function, thanked C-Care for the commitment to preserve the environment alongside their professional duty of elevating health care countrywide.

Dr. Bahatungire commended the organization for providing a vital platform to acknowledge the hard work and outstanding contributions of health practitioners nationwide.

This year’s awards recognized outstanding facilities across nine categories, celebrating those that have implemented innovative strategies, systems, and tools to significantly enhance patient experience and operational excellence.

The event was attended by Dr. Ian Clerk the founder of International Hospital Kampala (IHK), Namuwongo which later became C-Care and other big shots in the medical industry like Dr Sabrina Kitaka.

Some of them are trees which bear fruit and we hope that these babies will one day enjoy the fruits of those trees” said Mugalu.

Mugalu also noted that in terms of operational excellence, they strive to ensure that operational excellence is not just a goal but a culture, and that they are building this culture to see that every patient interaction in their different facilities is meaningful.”

He added, “Since we met last year, a lot of changes have taken place like growing from an average of 43,000 patients seen across our facilities to an average of 50,000 people per month. We have grown our network to 22 health care facilities across the country and 3 of our centers, Mukono, Mbale, and Gulu, transitioned to hospitals.”

Dr Jeff Sebuyira Mukasa the chairman of the board of trustees of C-Care Uganda said that assurances of excellence is in a bid to avoid medical tourism outside the country, where Uganda spends 70 million dollars every year on medical tourism with Ugandans going abroad to seek treatment, adding that as C-Care thy are working around the clock to make sure the best medical services are availed to people to stay around.

While appreciating the various stakeholders of C-Care, the CEO Azhar Sundhoo said that
a year ago, they launched the C-Care Excellence Awards, and started on the journey of making excellence their way of life. “Today, after exactly 12 months, we reflect on this journey from where we have come in terms of how we serve our patients, how we lead our team, and how we build a system that we can trust”, he said.

The awards spanned categories such as Laboratory Services, Service Excellence, Facility OperationsHuman Resources, Pharmacy, Nursing Protocols, Billing and Credit, and Financial Performance and the winners of the awards depended on discipline and hard work. These areas showcase the various components of C-Care IMC’s operational framework, each vital to delivering a consistently positive patient experience.
