Ali Kaliisa and Farouk Kasibante, residents of Buziga in Makindye Division are behind bars after conning a Turkish businessman Ozelli Mustapha of USD 150,000, close to sh550m after luring him into a fake gold deal.
The two are alleged to have chanced on Ozeli as he sipped his cup of coffee at Caramel Café and Lodge at Lubowa in the suburbs of Kampala, befriended him, and ended up convincing him that they could sell him the gold.
According to Ozeli’s statement, the two told him they were businessmen who have dealings with security agents, and when they approached him on January 13, 2025, they were in the company of uniformed soldiers.

They showed him samples of the gold, whereupon he gave them some money as part payment after testing their gold and finding it fine. As one thing followed the other, the two bean dilly dallying and finally gave him counterfeit gold pieces, whereupon he alerted police.

Their file has been forwarded to the DPP and on Friday, they appeared before Kajjansi court before Magistrate Doreen Kalungi and charged with obtaining money by false pretense.
They made attempts to procure bail but their sureties were unsubstantial, and so were further remanded till August 20, 2025.
