Dead Kamuli LC5 Chairman Had Survived Two Earlier Accidents, Poisoning Incident

Facts are unfolding indicating that the late Kamuli district chairperson, Charles Maxwell Mugude Kuwembula, 43, who died  on Thursday in an early morning  motor accident along Kampala-Kayunga road, had survived two earlier accidents, in addition to a poisoning incident which necessitated flying him to Germany for specialized treatment.

Kuwembula was driving back to Kamuli in a double cabin registration number UG 699M, when he rammed into a parked Sinotruk lorry which had developed a mechanical fault along Nakifuma-Kayunga stretch in Mukono district. According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, Kuwembula died instantly. Onyango said that the accident happened at around 4:00am.

The body was first taken to Naggalama Division police station and later transferred to Mulago main Referral Hospital. He is said to have been travelling back home after picking nomination papers from the NRM secretariat, seeking to run for another term in the district leadership seat.

According to family members, Kuwembula was involved in an accident shortly after completion of the campaign round that saw him assume the district leadership slot, and it is said he spent close to six months walking with the help of crutches.

He got the second accident at Buwaiswa village, when he lost control of the vehicle he was driving and somersaulted several times, but was saved by the fact that he had fastened the seat belt.

Shortly before his death, he organized a thanksgiving ceremony for having survived death by whiskers when his body assimilated poison. He was flown to Germany where he spent two months undergoing treatment. At the thanksgiving ceremony, he told celebrants that he inhaled poisoned air from a motor vehicle fan.

Baligeya had succeeded the late Ahmed Kawooya Kawugu Mugaino, who had been ejected for lack of the requisite academic papers. Kuwembula was a teacher, and was a former district councillor for Butansi sub-county.
