The Assistant District Health Officer of Kole District, Egwang Martin, is expected to appear before the Kole Magistrate’s Court today to take plea on charges of uttering false documents and impersonation.
According to the charges, Egwang allegedly presented fraudulent academic documents while applying for the position of Assistant District Health Officer in charge of Maternal and Child Health at the Kole District Local Government in February 2017.
Prosecution states that Egwang knowingly and fraudulently submitted a transcript for a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration and Management, transcript number 93342, purportedly issued by Uganda Martyrs University. The document was presented to the Kole District Service Commission during the recruitment process, despite allegedly knowing that it was false.
Court documents further indicate that Egwang also presented a Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) Uganda Certificate of Education while applying for the same position. However, the certificate was reportedly issued to another individual identified as Egwang Martin, an Estates Engineer at Busitema University.
Prosecutors allege that he falsely represented himself as the person named on the certificate with the intention of deceiving the District Service Commission and securing the job fraudulently.
Egwang’s appearance in court will mark the start of legal proceedings where he will formally respond to the charges brought against him.
Authorities say the case highlights growing concerns about the use of forged academic documents in public service recruitment.
