The Ministry of Health has announced their plan to recruit a total of 156 health extension workers across Butaleja district, to help boost the fight for the preventable diseases, apparently squeezing especially children and their mothers.

James Ocakacon, the Senior Medical Officer, attached to the Ministry of Health, on Tuesday chaired the meeting in Butaleja district health boardroom, involving the district councillors on health committee, medical officers, community development officer, and the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Eva Kwesiga, who officiated the event as the guest of honor.

Ocakacon, said that the recruits must have certificates of “O” level, to match with the standard of ably collecting the data, speaking the official language and overseeing the work of the Village Health Team (VHTs), whose required qualifications apparently have gaps.

He also said that they will be trained for work in six months and will work hand in hand with the VHTs, to help the public members out of diarrhea, dysentery, malaria and poor response to maternal health by the mothers in the district. He added that they will be paid a monthly reward of sh150,000.

Eva Kwesiga, the Butaleja district RDC directed the technocrats to support the ministry’s program because it’s one of the President’s dreams for the development Agenda 2040.

She, however, warned the applicants against forging papers, and also blamed the health workers who often abscond from duties without reasons, yet they are better paid on the science scale.
