According to preliminary investigations, the officials are accused of orchestrating irregular recruitment practices that favored their close relatives — including children and spouses — for coveted public service positions.
Authorities allege that the suspects bypassed established employment procedures, sidelining merit-based competition and denying qualified applicants a fair opportunity.
Among the affected positions were Municipal Labour Officer, Education Assistants, Accountant for Mityana Municipality, headteachers, and several teaching posts across schools in the district. Investigators believe these appointments were made without adherence to mandatory recruitment and appointment guidelines.
More troubling, sources indicate that the accused officials allegedly failed to declare conflicts of interest to the Commission, a requirement under the Leadership Code Act and the Uganda Public Service Standing Orders. The omission is said to have compounded the ethical breaches and undermined public trust in the district’s hiring processes.

Residents of Mityana have expressed mixed reactions — some shocked by the scale of the allegations, others hopeful that the arrests mark the beginning of stronger accountability in local government.
Authorities emphasize that investigations are ongoing, with a clear objective: to restore integrity, transparency, and fairness in recruitment processes within Mityana District.
Officials have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that public service positions are awarded strictly on merit, giving all qualified candidates equitable access to opportunities.
As the case unfolds, it stands as a stark reminder that abuse of office carries consequences — and that the fight against corruption remains firmly in motion.
