Nomination of NUP’s Presidential Candidate Hangs in Balance-Electoral Commission
The local and Muslim community in Sheema district have been gripped by the sudden death of their local leader, Hakim Mugabi of Kashozi Division in Sheema Municipality.
Mugabi’s death was on Friday morning on September 19, 2025 reported at around 8:30 am. He is said to have died on the way to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital due to health complications that allegedly arose from high blood pressure.
He has served as Kashozi Division chairperson since 2021 and he was recently elected the NRM party flag bearer for the same division.
In May this year, Mugabi also won the position of NRM Vice Chairperson for Sheema Municipality, defeating Eng. Raymond Kamugisha, the Director of Presidential Projects and Industrial Hubs, with 91 votes against 34.
At the time when he met his death, he was also serving as the Chairperson of Sheema Muslims and was a member of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) General Assembly.
