“By bidding for the party flag, lose it to another person and again decide to stand on an independent ticket, it exposes your inconsistency and I am sure people will never trust you with another chance for leadership,” he said.

Dr. Emmanuel Sserunjogi Oweddembe has today been nominated to retain his seat as the Mayor for Kawempe Division.
An official flag bearer of National Unity Platform (NUP), Sserunjogi has accused the growing number of NUP leaning independent candidates of hypocrisy, for not adhering to the official decisions of the party.
“To those who participated in the party primaries then after deciding to contest as independents, I advise you to reconsider your decision and return to the party. There is no reason for acting hypocrisy by participating in the party’s internal selection and again contesting independently,” he said.

Sserunjogi asked all NUP members to support party flag bearers as the only way to strengthen the struggle.
“By bidding for the party flag, lose it to another person and again decide to stand on an independent ticket, it exposes your inconsistency and I am sure people will never trust you with another chance for leadership,” he said.
Latif Ssebaggala who participated in the NUP vetting process and lost to Sserunjogi has also been nominated on an independent ticket. Ssebaggala accused the NUP vetting process of a number of inconsistencies hence a decision to stand as independent.
Other contestants who have been nominated include, NRM’s Latif Bulime, the head of Seven Hills Initiatives for City Cleaning, a cleaning company in Kawempe South and Erick Katende Njakaasi, a teacher who has also stood on an independent bid after losing the NRM card.
