The accident involved a Scania bus, registration number UA 354AN, belonging to Gateway Bus Company, which was traveling from Kampala to Soroti via Nyenga route.
One person has been confirmed dead and four others injured in a fatal accident which occurred today July 21, 2025 at approximately 1:30am.
According to Michael Kananura, the traffic Police spokesperson, the accident happened at Katovu village in Ngogwe sub-county, along Katosi–Nyenga Road in Buikwe District.

Kananura says that the preliminary findings suggest that the accident was caused by a front tyre burst, which led the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

“The bus overturned to the right, resulting in the instant death of the driver, while 4 passengers sustained injuries of varying severity,” he said.
Police is reported to have responded promptly to the scene, transporting the injured victims to Nkokonjeru Health Centre & Kawolo Hospital for medical attention.
Kananura reports that the driver’s body was taken to Kawolo Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination, and the vehicle towed to Ngongwe Police Station as investigations commence.
He urged all motorists to conduct regular vehicle maintenance checks & strictly adhere to road safety regulations to prevent such tragic incidents.
