The Electoral Commission chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama has issued the dates for the nomination of presidential candidates for 2026 general elections.
Justice Byabakama says the presidential candidates’ nomination will be conducted on September 23 and 24, 2025.
He has asked those who picked nomination forms to arrange the requirements which were highlighted to them including; paying to the bank, sh20m, the signatures from not less than one hundred voters in each of at least two thirds of all the districts of Uganda. (100 voters from a minimum of 98 districts).

According to Byabakama, the nomination of Presidential Candidates will be conducted at Lweza, at the place where the EC launched the construction of its new offices.
More than 170 presidential aspirants picked nomination forms for 2026 general elections.

Other political parties include; the leading opposition party, National Unity Platform (NUP), Democratic Party (DP), which has a cooperation agreement with the NRM, Conservative Party (CP), National Economic and Empowerment Dialogue (NEED), Uganda Economic Party (UEP), which almost completed the process for change of name to Common Man’s Party and Uganda People’s Congress (UPC).
