Former Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Justice Minister, Constant Mutamba has been sentenced to three years of forced labor for embezzling public funds, including money intended for war victims’ compensation.

Mutamba transferred $19 million from the ministry’s bank account to Zion Construction, which was meant to compensate victims of war crimes committed by Ugandan and Rwandan forces in Kisangani.

He is also barred from voting or standing for election for five years and ordered to repay the $19 million.

Earlier this year, he proposed making embezzlement a capital offense but now claims the case is a “political plot” by Rwanda.
