Police in Kyankwanzi District have launched a manhunt for a suspect identified as Maganda Isaac following a violent robbery that left a businesswoman seriously injured.

According to authorities in the Wamala Police Region, the incident occurred around midnight on March 14 in a forested area of Kyankwanzi sub-county.

Wamala Region Police spokesperson, Lameck Kigozi says that the suspect had previously brokered a deal involving forest trees for charcoal burning at Ranch Number 5 in the sub-county. The victim, whose identity has not yet been confirmed, had paid for the trees and deployed workers to produce charcoal.

On the night of the attack, the woman reportedly went to pay her workers and informed Maganda of her visit.

“He received her and pretended to escort her through the forest,” police said in a statement.

However, along the way, the suspect allegedly turned on the victim, cutting her severely before robbing her of an unspecified amount of money and fleeing the scene.

Good Samaritans later rescued the injured woman and rushed her to Hoima Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.

Police further revealed that the suspect has a known criminal record and is currently on bail over allegations of goat theft.

A case has since been registered at Bukwiri Police Station, and investigations are ongoing.

Authorities are now appealing to residents of Kyankwanzi and surrounding areas to assist in locating the suspect.

“We call upon anyone with information about his whereabouts to inform police immediately,” said Lameck Kigozi, the Public Relations Officer for Wamala Police Region.

The suspect remains at large.
